Renaud Morieux is a Reader in British and European History at the University of Cambridge, and a Fellow of Jesus College. He joined the Cambridge Faculty of History in 2011, previously having taught at several French universities, most recently as a Maître deConférences in Lille.
His research interests include oceanic history, international borders, legal history, and the history of imprisonment. He is the author of The Channel: England, France and the Construction of a Maritime Border in the Eighteenth Century (Cambridge University Press, 2016), a revised edition of his 2008 French book on “La Manche”. The Channel won the 2017 Leon Gershoy Award awarded by the American Historical Association. He recently published The Society of Prisoners: Anglo-French Wars and Incarceration in the Eighteenth Century (Oxford University Press, 2019). His current research projects relate to the non-normative history of international law. He is also interested in exploring further the relationships between gender and war.
